    FAQs

AV Line switches are specifically engineered for the unique needs of AV over IP applications, unlike generic network switches designed for general data traffic. AV Line switches, such as our M4250 series, arrive pre-configured with AV-specific settings to simplify installation. They feature specialized interfaces that use familiar AV terminology and have built-in profiles for protocols like Dante and AES67, allowing for seamless plug-and-play operation. This focus on AV professionals also extends to hardware design, with features like rear-facing ports for clean rack integration and quiet operation for sound-sensitive environments.

Our AV Line switches support a wide range of AV-over-IP applications, including live event production, digital signage, corporate conferencing, broadcast, and education. They come with pre-configured profiles for audio protocols like Dante, Q-SYS, and AES67, and for video applications including NVX, NDI, and SDVoE. With seamless integration, low latency, and quiet operation, they’re ideal for both front-of-house and behind-the-scenes AV environments.

Start by matching the switch to your AV system’s bandwidth and port needs—1G for audio, 10G or higher for video. Then look at PoE requirements, especially if powering devices like cameras or encoders. Choose a model with pre-configured AV profiles for the protocols you use. Also consider fan noise and form factor for rack or room placement.

For larger setups, look for features like Auto-LAG, IGMP Plus, and stacking support. Check out our Pro AV technical guide to learn more.
